Bike trade bristles with enthusiasm

THE CYCLE trade was unusually hirsute (even for the cycle trade) in November, thanks to charity challenge Movember in aid of men’s health. Plenty of cycle businesses got involved, including Fisher Outdoor Leisure (pictured mid-way through the challenge), Zyro, JeJames Cycles, Moore’s Cycles and Dales Cycles, who partnered with Silverfish and Yeti in their efforts – all aiming for handlebar moustaches, naturally. We’ll be honest, this photo from Fisher makes us wonder if a few people might have cheated just a tiny little bit, but it’s all in aid of charity tinyurl.com/movemberbiketrade2013

Swapping hardhats for bike helmets

THE PROPERTY industry is in the midst of a love affair with cycling (we’re told), with many property folk switching their hardhats and suits for lycra and cycling helmets. Cycle to MAPIC is a case in point. Last month 21 property professionals rode 450km from Milan to Cannes for the start of the international retail property market exhibition, MAPIC, raising money for charity. This is the partner event to the larger, Cycle to MIPIM, London to Cannes ride, held annually in March. More info over at www.cycle2cannes.org

Mobilize Me

WE’VE BANGED the drum for World Bicycle Relief before and we’re doing it again in support of its latest ‘Mobilize Me’ campaign. WBR is matching all contributions to the campaign, until December

31st 2013. Mobilize Me is aiming to mobilise thousands of entrepreneurs, healthcare workers and students by providing life-changing transportation that will help them to feed their families, build their businesses, treat the sick, finish school, follow their dreams and change their world. A worthy cause: http://tinyurl.com/pelkwjy

CROWDFUNDING CORNER

Got an idea for a great product but no hard cash to get started? Then it’s time to ask the internet for a hand-out…

Purple Harry of ‘Bike Floss’ fame is looking for a cash injection to take the business forward and has turned to the internet, via Crowd Cube, for help. Seeking a cool £75,000, the cleaning brand has an ‘exciting pipeline of new product ideas’ as well as stocking, marketing and infrastructure requirements. Paw sense of direction?

CAMBRIDGE-BASEDViewRanger has been helping BBC Children In Need’s Richshaw Challenge stay on track. The sports computer, navigation and buddybeacon app has been utilised by the rickshaw team and to keep supporter up to date with the progress of the challenge. Unless BikeBiz’s eyes were mistaken, Polaris supplied the team with cycle clothing. In total the Rickshaw Challenge raised in excess of £1m for the charity.
