 BRITISH CYCLING Bob Howden, the acting chair of British Cycling has been elected as British Cycling’s new president, replacing the now head of UCI Brian Cookson. He was voted in at British Cycling’s annual National Council meeting, held this year in Crewe. Howden has served as British Cycling’s


acting chair since Cookson took up his post as president of the UCI in September. Howden has been a board member for the past 13 years. He has also been the chair of the Yorkshire region since its inception in 2001. Howden, said: “I am delighted to have been elected as British Cycling’s president with a mandate to push on with ensuring that British Cycling is achieving its objectives. We will remain true to what has become our tradition: to succeed on the world stage and to inspire people to enjoy riding their bikes more often, be it for sport, recreation or transport. “Brian Cookson is a tough act to follow –

enjoyed under his leadership. We are certainly riding high and it’s my job to ensure that we build on this.”


 SPORT ENGLAND British Cycling’s chief executive, Ian Drake, has been appointed to sit on Sport England’s Board, the national body for grassroots sport. Drake’s appointment has been announced alongside six other new board members – including Kate Bosomworth, David Goldstone, Sally Gunnell, Debbie Jevans, Charles Reed and Mark Spelman. The new members have been appointed for a three-year term. Commenting on the news, Ian Drake said: “I am delighted to be joining Sport England’s Board. It is a privilege to help shape the future of grassroots sport in this country. “The amazing success that cycling has

enjoyed across all levels since 2008 has put me in a good position to be able to use that experience to help drive change across all other sports.”


 PALIGAP Paligap has strengthened its office and on the road sales team, with the appointment of Tony Rose as national sales manager and James Wellman as the distributor’s new south east territory account manager. With over 20 years experience in the bicycle industry, Rose has covered everything from retail sales, distribution sales management and brand development, among other roles. Wellman has been part of the Paligap internal sales team for a number of years and has built strong relationships with his dealer area. With experience in key projects such as the Fast Forward dealer program and Cipollini frame program he was the obvious choice to fill this position.
