to have their prayers answered. I scribbled my wish on a scrap of paper and posted it carefully into a crack in the wall amongst so many others. Revealing my wish would be cheating, but up to now the powers of the Wailing Wall have not failed me! You don’t have to be on a pilgrimage to appreciate the architectural beauty that lies within the walls. Each building, bridge, archway and collum conforms to the only legal construction material, a pale limestone, the Jerusalem stone. Machne Yuda Market can be found at Macneyuda, a modish Israeli restaurant hidden away in a bordering side street. Te price may not be so modest but this little discovery is packed with a vibrant atmosphere. In a long weekend I had ventured into the heart of Israel, Jerusalem, a city of iconic structures, diverse cultures and living history, much better than sea and sandcastles.
