C9 unleashes Live+ wizardry in Australia

Dejero By David Fox

Channel Nine Australia has deployed multiple Dejero Live+ Transmitters for its national and international news bureaux. Supplied by Dejero’s Australian distributor, Digistor, the Dejero

equipment, which has just received a major upgrade to Version 2.9, is becoming a valuable component in Channel Nine's live newsgathering capabilities. “Dejero's Live+ transmitters enable us to bring ‘you are there’ immediacy to breaking news for which microwave or satellite might not be practical,”

said the channel’s chief technology officer, Mathew Yelavich.

“And now, with the remote

control and enhanced audio features in Version 2.9, Dejero has set the bar even higher for broadcast quality in a cellular bonding transmission solution,” Yelavich added. 11.C21

Air tripod system launched

Miller Camera Support By David Fox

The new Air tripod is Miller’s first system aimed at both photographers and videographers, providing a durable fluid head and tripod system that supports both stills and videos. It is designed to suit both the latest DSLR cameras and digital camcorders, and is claimed to offer the same sort of performance as Miller’s award-winning Compass, Arrow and Skyline ranges, including ‘soft take-offs, super-stable pan & tilt moves and smooth fluid stops’. Features include a user-friendly design; genuine fluid head technology; a wide payload range up to 5kg; selectable

counterbalance; bubble-levelling and a strong, lightweight alloy body supported by the versatile Solo Rapid-Lock tripod. 11.D30

EC-funded project running until October 2014 whose latest research is on show at the Future Zone. It wants to find ways of capturing and fusing scene data from multiple cameras and other kinds of sensors, so that structural, depth and surface appearance can be contained in a single representation. Along the way it is

addressing the extraction of

scene information, construction and manipulation of images, through to its optimisation for network delivery and rendering on different platforms and at different quality levels. On display at IBC today are

new tools that support the envisioned Scene Representation Architecture including an experimental 3D scene data capture rig, prototypes of analysis modules and a prototype of a camera incorporating an ARRI Alexa and a newly developed integrated time-of-flight sensor. Partners in the project are

Barcelona Media, ARRI, Brainstorm, Technicolor, 3Dlized, Fraunhofer, iMinds, IVCI (Univ. des Saarlandes) and University of Surrey. 8.G41
