On September 10 to 11 the UK’s leading energy exhibition and conference will again open for business at the NEC, Birmingham, with energy management, technology and innovation set to dominate the programme

Also available this year is a two-day conference programme, featuring talks by the industry’s pre-eminent researchers and decision makers. From pioneering renewables research to the latest cost-cutting tech- nologies, this free-to-attend event is aimed at those managing energy in buildings and industry. It’s also a key destination for anyone with responsi- bility for energy procurement and management from all areas of public, commercial and industrial energy management sectors. This is the topic headline speaker Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Edward Davey MP, who will draw on his extensive industry experi- ence as the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. As well as offering an insight into the latest developments in energy market reform, Davey’s talk will also consider how the UK’s current energy efficiency strategies will help to combat ever-increasing future demand. Charismatic member of the House of Lords, Professor of Science and TV presenter Lord Robert Winston is another headline speaker confirmed

Must see panel debates • What’s needed to drive businesses to invest in energy efficiency measures? Practical events • Visitors who prefer practical discus- sions with a strong case study focus should make time for The Eden Project presentation. Leading energy officer at The Eden Project, Amy Hurst will


discuss the project’s unique approach to energy conservation, as well as the strategies they use to engage building users. (Energy Information Theatre, 10 September, 16.15pm to 16.45pm.) • Northern Rail’s energy solutions manager, Gareth Williams, will also deliver a presentation on devising and implementing energy efficient mea- sures across the entire Northern Rail services. Exhibitor highlights


A huge range of exhibitors will be on- site showcasing the latest technologies and energy-saving solutions. Businesses and organisations from across the energy sector will also be on hand offering advice, from major energy suppliers such as E.on, EDF Energy and npower to brokers, consul- tants and product manufacturers. The full range of energy technolo- gies, products and solutions will be at The Energy Event 2013, from building energy management systems (BEMS), to combined heat and power (CHP) and voltage optimsation.


Other environment events Three other leading environmental shows will also take place alongside The Energy Event at the NEC from 10 to 12 September. RWM show expects to break records


his year, the NEC will again host one of Europe’s premier annual resource efficiency and waste manage- ment show when RWM in partnership with CIWM 2013 opens its doors on the 10th to 12th September. The event is set to break records with over 750 exhibitors and 15,000 visitors expected while a host of exciting features are designed to deliver networking and learning opportunities. David Copeland, global head of brand marketing, Environment portfolio, i2i Events Group, says: “Last year’s show saw a five per cent increase in visitors on 2011, the most extensive conference programme yet, and over 66 countries represent- ed. The 2013 event will build on this success and provide a first class showcase for this dynamic and growing sector.” Exhibitors will include major waste contractors Viridor and first-time exhibitors Hills Waste as well as world-leading plant and vehicle suppliers such as JCB, Liebherr, DAF Trucks and Mercedes Benz. Major materials reprocessors such as Smurfit Kappa and Novelis are returning this year and a host of big names in collection and cleansing, including Faun Zoeller, Heil and Johnston Sweepers, will be showing their latest innovations. Expertise in materials handling and sorting, meanwhile, will be stronger than ever with an array of exhibitors including Eriez, Bulk Handling Systems, Titech UK and Pellenc. Those looking for advice and guidance on everything from product stewardship to safety in the workplace will also find key industry bodies and organisations on the show floor, including WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) and the Health & Safety Executive.
