■ currents ask your co-op

Q. A.

What is the Co-op Connection card and how do I get one?

The Co-op Connection card is a special benefit of your electric co-op membership. The card

qualifies you for certain discounts on goods and services from thousands of participating businesses.

The Co-op Connection card is not a credit card. You can’t use it to purchase goods and services, and their are no fees associated with using it.

Millions of electric co-op members across the U.S. use their Co-op Connections card to save money on health care, eyeglasses, hearing aids, prescription medicine, travel and entertainment, shopping and more. Choctaw Electric began offering the card to members in 2008.

Today, any co-op member may go online and print off a copy of the card at www. connections.coop. You will be asked to select your sponsoring cooperative (CEC) and provide your zip code.

Members who prefer to carry a plastic card, should contact LoisAnn Beason, coordinator of the CEC Co-op Connections, at 800-780-6486.

Many local businesses participate in the program by offering discounts to CEC members. Every month CEC Inside Your Co-op highlights a few of these participating businesses. A list of all local partners is also available online at choctawelectric.coop, or to view all deals available nationwide visit www. connections.coop.

Members invited to submit bylaw changes

Choctaw Electric Cooperative members may submit proposed changes to the CEC bylaws no less that 90 days prior to the CEC Annual Meeting to be held September 28, 2013.

The CEC bylaws are the rules under which your cooperative operates. These rules govern many aspects of your cooperative business including the election process and the establishment of cooperative voting districts. Information about amendments and changes is found in Article XV of the CEC bylaws.

CEC publishes proposed bylaw changes in CEC Inside Your Co- op prior to the annual meeting. Members vote on proposed amendments at the annual meeting.

Copies of the bylaws are available at CEC offices in Hugo, Idabel, and Antlers. For more information please call 800-780-6486 or 580-326-6486.

CEC asks members to help battle copper crime

Choctaw Electric Cooperative is asking members for their help in the ongoing battle against copper crime.

Copper thieves steal co-op wire, meter loops, and other system components that contain copper. Recent thefts occurred in isolated rural areas where ground wires are yanked down and then sold to scrap metal dealers.

Members are asked to keep their eyes open and report any suspicious vehicles or activity near co-op power lines, substations or equipment. If you see something that doesn’t seem right, call 911 immediately, and contact Choctaw Electric Cooperative at 800-780-6486.

Appliance loans make it easier to buy efficient units

If you’ve shopped for appliances recently, you know that efficient units cost more. That reason may be enough to steer you toward the less expensive, less efficient model. Don’t do it.

Choctaw Electric Cooperative’s appliance loan program can help you afford to purchase a more energy efficient appliance for your home. The energy you save over the long term makes purchasing an energy efficient unit the smart choice

Under the appliance loan program, CEC will loan up to $2,500 on qualifying Energy Star appliances including:

• clothes washers • dryers • refrigerator/freezers • dishwashers • water heaters • central heat and air units • cooktops • stoves and ovens • microwave ovens

To qualify for an appliance loan, you must be at least a one-year member of Choctaw Electric Cooperative with a B credit rating or higher.

Loan applications are found online at www.choctawelectric.coop or call 800-780-6486 for more details.
