AFS Northwestern Pennsylvania

Chapter Hosts Student Night The AFS Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter held its annual student night in February, where three engineer- ing students from Penn State Erie-The Behrend College presented their senior projects. Justin Tenney worked on two major projects during an

internship at GW Becker, Hermitage, Pa. He created a da- tabase of the company’s cranes, noting each crane’s specifi ca- tions. Tenney also developed a project management timeline for a large overhead crane project. Vincent Samosky is working with a group of Penn State

Behrend students to design three positive displacement hydraulic units for Power Drives Inc., Erie Pa. Carissa Stanko presented her work on developing a metal

internal gating system intended to gradually melt as metal is poured into a green sand mold. She is testing her theories using simulation software at Hodge Foundry, Greenville, Pa. The Northwestern Pennsylvania’s AFS chapter

is committed to working with Penn State Erie-The Behrend College to promote and educate students in the metalcasting industry. Each year, the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter awards scholarships to encourage students working toward a career in the metalcasting industry and help further their education.

“ I’m very satisfi ed with

my long-term print advertis- ing program in MCDP—it’s the only advertising I do. It gives me great visibility and name recognition, both with existing customers and with new ones. And the steady fl ow of new business it brings in easily justifi es the investment.
