Piriou delivers first half of Bourbon FSIV order

Twin fast support intervention vessels join Bourbon’s fleet off the coast of Angola, engaged in cargo and passenger transportation between offshore platforms

support intervention vessels (FSIVs), which are currently deployed in Angola, off the coast of Western Africa. Te 53.4m x 10m Bourbon Sirocco was delivered in Q3 2012,while her sister, Bourbon Shamal, joined Bourbon’s 30-strong FSIV fleet in this location following her handover to the group in February 2013. As with their FSIV predecessors, the

O

new twins will primarily be used for fast transportation of cargo between offshore sites, installation assistance and effecting crew changes at deepwater fields, activities that Bourbon has been engaged in within this territory since 2004. Te group can also draw on local support from Sonasurf, its Angola-based joint venture, and its own Bourbon repair centre network. Both vessels were designed jointly by

Piriou Ingénierie and Mauric Design, and constructed by the Piriou SEAS yard in Vietnam. This facility recently beefed itself up with the construction of a 1,000m2

vessel fabrication shed and a new

concrete ramp, which will permit the yard to launch vessels sized up to 60m in length in future, although the construction of the Bourbon duo represented Piriou’s largest vessels built to date.

DP-enabled Each of the newcomers is equipped with dynamic positioning 2 (DP2) system capabilities, reliant on Navis’ Nav DP 4000 system, which is comprised of: three reference sensors (two digital GPS and one one CyScan); three wind sensors; three gyros; two vertical reference units; two DP consoles; and an independent joystick system. Each FSIV features a deadweight of 300tonnes and a gross tonnage of 464tonnes, and deck

cargo space amounts to approximately 242m2

capacity of 226tonnes. Meanwhile, a main lounge area has been

designed with 60 seats to accommodate as many members of offshore personnel, in an air-conditioned, soundproofed environment. Each vessel also features two one-man and four two-man cabins for the benefit of its crew, which is made up of 10 complementary members, including the captain and his first mate, a DP officer and junior DP officer, a chief engineer and second engineer and four seafarers. Bourbon specified the incorporation

of aluminium hulls into the vessels’ design, to decrease overall weight and limit fuel consumption. Te propulsive arrangement includes four 1,340kW main engines driving four Hamilton HM 811 waterjets, which are complemented by a pair of 150kW bow tunnel thrusters.

Speed ranges Each sister has been designed for a range of speed parameters: when operating at full speed in passenger mode, the vessels can

attain 30knots, or 25.5knots when laden with cargo. Alternatively, service speed has been calculated as 27.7knots for a passenger complement, and 23knots when carrying cargo, while economy speed, involving two main engines operating at 80% MCR, is recorded at 20knots with passengers and 17knots with cargo. Te vessels are also equipped with two

remote controlled firefighting monitors, each located aſt, and capable of producing 1,200m3

pumps, also with 1,200m3

per hour, as well as a pair of fire / hr capacities,

and a deluge system. Capacity-wise, Bourbon Sirocco and her sister can carry 135m3

of fuel oil and 100m3 of fresh water.

Delivery rates for both fuel oil and fresh water are calculated at 50m3

per hour, at a

pressure of 7bar. Other deck equipment includes

an anchor windlass and a 5tonne tugger and, in addition to mandatory safety equipment, each FSIV carries a SOLAS-compliant, six-person man overboard boat with davit. The vessels have been classified by ABS, which has issued the vessels HSC Crew Boat, A1, AMS and DSPS 2 notations. OMT
