Unified Bridge order Rolls-Royce has announced that its new Rolls-Royce Unified Bridge solution is due to undergo its first installation, aboard a forthcoming offshore platform support vessel (PSV). The 91.7m x 20m vessel is currently under construction at Astilleros Gondan’s yard in Spain, and is being built for Norwegian shipowner Simon Møkster Shipping to the specifica- tions of Rolls-Royce’s UT 776 WP wave piercing class. Te Unified Bridge system is intended to streamline
the range of control levers, console panels and displays associated with offshore vessels’ numerous onboard systems. According to Rolls-Royce, the layout of the product can be customised to suit a range of operator requirements and to meet ergonomic considerations. Anders Almestad, president of the power systems
manufacturer’s offshore department, comments: “Working aboard ships in the offshore sector can be hugely demanding on crew, where concentration, visibility and rapid response are essential for safe operations. Te Unified Bridge was developed aſter an in-depth study of bridge system requirements for the navigation and operation of vessels focused on human- centred design, safety, performance and simplicity.” Te as yet unnamed vessel will be classed by DNV,
with an option for ICE 1B notation, and is set to accommodate 27 persons, with service speed scheduled for between 12-15knots. Aſter delivery, in July 2014, she will enter into charter with Statoil for operation in the North Sea and the High North.

LNG technology Trelleborg acquires UK
LNG asset Trelleborg Marine Systems has acquired UK-based Sea Systems Technology (SeaTechnik), the latter company specialising in the production of systems designed to ensure safe LNG transfers between vessels and shore terminals. Trelleborg reportedly intends the purchase to consolidate its position in the provision of mooring, docking and berthing solutions for the LNG and FLNG segments and, as part of the acquisition, Trelleborg now gets to draw upon an extra 45 members of global staff, and to take advantage of SeaTechnik’s office facilities in Singapore and South Korea. In January 2013, Trelleborg was contracted to supply
customised docking and mooring equipment to a series of three LNG projects on Queensland’s Curtis Island, Australia; namely, Queensland Curtis LNG, Gladstone LNG and Australia Pacific LNG.

for hull blasting Houston, Texas-based MMLJ Manufacturing has launched its Dustless Hull Blasting System, which mixes a minimal amount of water with recycled bottled glass to remove coatings and marine growth from hulls. According to the company, the blasting system,
which uses about 15% of the water typically consumed by a power washer system, can strip a hull’s paint layer, without damaging the gel coat, in 10% of the time associ- ated with traditional jet-blasting methods. approval for BWT system Wärtsilä has received IMO type approval for its Aquarius UV ballast water management system. Tis system utilises a two-stage treatment process; firstly passing seawater through a back washing screen type filter, then into a UV chamber for disinfection. Te Finnish systems manufacturer claims that the Aquarius system has been designed to modular specifications, for ease of installation, particularly when being conducted as part of a retrofit.
