THE MYTH: AN APPLY A DAY...


All together now, "...keeps the doctor away!" While the old adage referencing a daily intake of fresh fruit has some truth to it, apples aren't by any means the most vitamin-rich fruit. If you're looking to get a vitamin boost in one snack, then a handful of blueberries is far more likely to do the trick. Blueberries are considered a superfood and are incredibly rich in vitamins and antioxidants, so they boost your immune system. Plus, they are super delicious. Sprinkle them over your cereal, into a bowl of plain yoghurt, or just eat them plain.


THE MYTH: A STRONG IMMUNE SYSTEM MEANS YOU WON’T GET A COLD


You probably think that if you have a really strong immune system, you won't get a cold, but you'd be mistaken. What we recognise as cold symptoms – the stuffy nose, the sore throat, the head full of cotton wool – is actually just your immune system trying to fight off a virus that wasn't going to do you any harm anyway. That is why cold symptoms and allergies are so difficult to tell apart – they are both the immune system overreacting to something. So, effectively, the stronger your immune system is, the more it's going to react to the common cold virus (or rather, any one of over 200 different cold viruses), and the worse you will feel. But before you skip that morning dose of blueberries, keep in mind that you need to keep you immune system strong to fight off other viruses.
