Up®, I was promoted to serve as the program’s coordinator. For the last 19 years—WOW!—I have prepared monthly reports for this column, documented minutes of the board meetings and served as the liaison with the board. Despite the familiarity, I still am awed by the impact of the report on the facing page.
As you can see, more than $200,000 in Operation Round Up donations
was invested in community projects and programs last year. These grants focus on six priority areas—medical, housing, food, clothing, educational assistance and community service—and are designed to help people who are falling between the cracks. The total awarded in grants represents more than 93 percent of the contributions for the year.

its auditing fee—are less than 3 percent of the income. Keeping expenses extraordinarily low is a testament to the diligence of the OEC Foundation board and our staff, all of whom are committed to achieving the highest management is a key factor in the program’s success.
Like me, there are a few others who have worked with the program
since its beginning. OEC’s CEO, Max Meek, CFO, Charles Barton, and member services director, Jack Ferrell, attend regular board meetings and serve as Operation Round Up advocates. In addition, three of the 10 OEC Foundation board members have served in that capacity from day one. We will be forever indebted to Jim Brown, Vivian Gibson and Lloyd Gramling, as well as their current and former colleagues, for their tireless volunteer service and creating a philanthropic legacy for their community.
