Cornish Charm

Jayne Moore visits picturesque Cornwall in search of the perfect family getaway

Te Llawnroc Hotel, Cornwall T

aking a four year old on holiday can be less than relaxing, trust me. So, this year we wanted a break which could offer a little

‘me time’ for all of the family. So, a road trip to Cornwall was suggested and I jumped at the opportunity. Forgive me for the tangent for a moment, if like most mums, you have done family holidays, then you will understand that by the time your child is four you are pretty drained from juggling the work/life balance - or lack of it. Te needs/demands of your growing child/monster come before everything, and you put your needs last in the list of priorities. Well enough already. Mum’s, you need a break! So, a relaxing drive to Cornwall on a rare

sunny day in June was just ideal, no stressing about missing flights, or racing for ferry’s, we had the freedom of the road and in a mere seven hours we arrived at our first destination. Te Llawnroc Hotel in Gorran Heaven, a short drive from fishing village, Mevagissey in St Austel. Tis really is an unexpected haven of luxury in a picture-postcard cove.

Heading down winding lanes we found Te

Llawnroc Hotel. nestled amongst the cutest Cornish cottages, this stylish hotel welcomes you with a friendly reception and a bar which opens onto a sea-view terrace, which is a welcome sight after a few hours in the car. Tankfully the sun shone brightly so we hit the beach immediately, allowing the four year old to let off a little steam by running into the sea. On returning to explore our room we were

very impressed by the high standards in this independently owned, 18 bedroom hotel, the finest linens and opulent finishes make for a relaxing stay. Breakfast was sublime local, line-caught smoked haddock with poached egg and

hollandaise sauce, while the little one indulged with fluffy Cornish Pancakes with lashings of whipped cream, blueberries and strawberries and my husband fully endorsed the cooked breakfast brimming with local produce. Tis hotel is a perfect base to explore the Cornish coastline and we all left feeling suitably relaxed.
