cal algorithm for tool selection, maximizing productivity with selec- tions based scientifi- cally on objective and empirical technical data rather than with conventional methods. The ITA application

provides an effective process of narrowing down all possible tooling scenarios, taking into account cutting conditions, machine power, metal removal rate and cutting time. Even for a simple application, such as milling a 90º shoulder of low-alloy steel with a 10-mm height and 10-mm width, tools selected by the application delivered more productivity compared to man- ual tool selection done by industry experts. ITA supports both inch and metric platforms and supports 25 different languages, and users can link to the Iscar electronic catalog, 2-D and 3-D tool drawings, product videos and pictures. Parts Cleaning System

The Nearfield cleaning system is said to deliver more cleaning energy to parts than other ultrasonic cleaning systems with a process that effectively removes difficult contaminants in short cycle times. Systems are powered by opposing magnetostric- tive transducers operating at different frequencies, 16 kHz and 20 kHz. The radiat- ing face of each immersible transducer is separated by a narrow gap or path called the Nearfield. As parts pass through the Nearfield wash section, they are subjected to an intense scrubbing action caused by the imploding cavitation cleaning action. The generator output wattage

to gallon of solution ratio in a typical Nearfield system is said to be 20 times the cleaning energy typically available in a standard batch-tank type application, resulting in more pro- ductive, product-focused operations and cleaner parts.
