La Costa Resor and Spa

Enjoys $50 Million Renovation

Carlsbad’s La Costa Resort and Spa has a distinguished history with many of the game’s greatest players and just rewrote a script ensuring an equally important future. Nestled in the coastal foothills north of San Diego, the iconic property received a makeover in 2011 leaving no area untouched. The Spanish mission-style resort now boasts a modern look with a 43,000-square-foot spa and more than 600 spacious guestrooms and suites, two championship golf courses, fi tness center and locally inspired restaurants.

COURSE REMODEL Under the direction

of Pascuzzo & Pate Golf Course Design, 18 holes on what was formerly named the North Course were en- hanced including replacing all greens. The new Cham- pions Course (four holes are completely new designs) also boasts repositioned bunkering and signifi cant alterations to the contours of the fairways along with advanced drainage technol- ogy for improved water fl ow throughout the entire 36-hole venue.

More than 30 acres of turf- grass were eliminated from the Champions Course to conserve water use while fairways were planted in 419 Bermuda and greens in bentgrass.

HISTORY Host of 37 PGA Tour

events, La Costa’s list of winners includes legends Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. The resort host- ed the Match Play Cham- pionships for seven years until 2006, and in 2010 was home of the inaugural Kia Classic on the LPGA Tour.

MORE THAN GOLF The golf course renova-

tion project is part of an overall $50 million invest- ment by resort owners, KSL Capital Partners. Other changes include updates to the majority of rooms and suites, the addition of an adult-only pool with three infi nity-edge jacuzzis, a dedicated café and bar and fi re pits with seating.
