WILLIE THE RAT:
Willie is a born storyteller who was generous with his knowledge of and passion for both the place and the mystery that is Loch Ness. We were fortunate to spend some quality time with Willie, getting schooled in local history (all the way back to the Picts), and getting hooked on the wonderful lore of the loch.
In his big booming voice that echoed throughout the little hotel café during our fi rst meeting, he told us how his father, Ian, had seen something most peculiar back in June 1965 while fi shing the loch with a friend. It turned out to be the longest sighting in history.

Despite enjoying more than one evening together, listening to Willie’s stories until the bar was well past closed, we never did fi nd out where his unusual moniker came from. But I guess, like the monster, some mysteries are best left unsolved.
