COMMENT
NHS Evidence has had a huge impact since its launch in 2009, and its chief operating officer Dr Gillian Leng thinks that will only increase with the advent of clinical commissioning and new technologies.

HS Evidence has a number of func- tions, but two of the key ones are act- ing as a simple-to-use portal to the latest research on virtually any clinical or wider healthcare issue, and accrediting the work of the very best guidance providers to en- sure it is seen as widely as possible by peo- ple who know they can trust it.
By helping clinicians make more evidence- based decisions, it acts as both a specific tool, and a wider philosophy about how the NHS should operate.

When NHE spoke to Dr Gillian Leng, chief operating officer of NHS Evidence and dep- uty chief executive at its parent body, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), we asked how embed- ded in the NHS it has become, and how far there is still to go.
