TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
With the pressures of balancing shift patterns and commitments at home, e-learning offers busy healthcare professionals a con- venient alternative to classroom- based courses.
With opportunities to prepare for leadership and manage- ment roles, e-learning offers the chance to extend qualifi cations and skills without having to take time out.
The benefi ts for students are that study can fi t around work and personal commitments; there is no need to attend university or the classroom; and students can study from various locations at a suitable time.
The BSc Health Sciences is de- livered entirely online. The course develops management skills and provides a theoretical under- standing of the healthcare system.
Students are supported with: • Online course content, journal articles and case studies
• Online discussions, bulletin boards and chat rooms
• Personal web space that can be shared with the tutorial group
It is for healthcare professionals who have registration or diplo- ma qualifi cations, and is offered part-time. The core modules are ‘Evidence-based healthcare’ and
‘Research methodologies
for
practice’ while the optional mod- ules (of which four need to be tak- en) are: ‘Making sense of clinical governance’; ‘Clinical governance in action; ‘Health informatics’; ‘Leadership’; ‘Managing change’; and ‘User and carer involvement in practice’.
