MARKET REPORT POWER GENERATION

Latest products On Board’s clever cube

On Board Energy’s e-cube mini is designed as a portable, maintenance-free, self-contained ‘energy pod’, giving clean, silent operation and reducing reliance on a generator, saving fuel and reducing carbon emissions.

The machine can work alongside a conventional generator, with a mains power supply, or on its own, depending on the situation. It stores energy and uses this to provide electricity when demand is modest. When loading increases or the stored energy is depleted, the generator starts automatically. The E-cube mini can also offer a short-term alternative to a diesel generator when intermittent power interruptions result from maintenance work.

Western’s Transcube range of road transportable fuel tanks includes the TCGCAB, a double-walled tank that includes a lockable storage cabinet within the secondary containment area. This can be used for securing items such as fuel cans for refilling generators and other machinery, hose reels, tools and spill kits. Four-way fork lift pockets are incorporated to facilitate on-site handling, and petrol engine driven fuel dispensing pumps are fitted. The TGCCAB is offered in capacities of 1000, 1500, 1700, 2000, and 3000 litres, and skid and site tow versions are also available.

Shindaiwa’s welder generator range currently covers three models with welding outputs of 165, 200 and 300A, designed for quiet operation. The trailer mounted 300A model has a sound-proofed canopy, achieving a noise level of 88 dB (LWA), and it offers a 3-phase 415V, 8kVA supply for operating a wide variety of power equipment, in addition to its standard, single-phase 110V CTE, 3 kVA output.

The compact ECO165UK and ECO300UK models incorporate an auto-idle system, whereby after a period of inactivity, the optimum engine speed for the job in hand is set automatically, without first running at maximum rpm, and this is said to reduce fuel consumption, noise and engine wear.

SDMO Energy recently confirmed a significant order for a fleet of its Rental Compact generators, which have been designed to comply with Stage 3 of the European Engine Emissions Directives. The hirer has purchased 250 machines, ranging from 20-500kVA, each equipped with a 3-way fuel valve for an external tank, plus a heavy-duty air filtration system for use in harsh environments, such as demolition sites and quarries. The fuel tanks are fully bunded, and operation is controlled via a Telys or Nexys controller. Each set is fitted with low level sockets and a hardwire facility, and transportation and off-loading are facilitated through the provision of nylon-lined fork access pockets in the base.
