Playing Opportunities for All Golfers

We all play golf because of the joy and excitement it brings, but taking the game to a competitive stage moves it to a new level. There are many golfers among us who revel in the opportunity to play competitively where every stroke counts. There are others who aren’t quite as sure their abilities will hold up. What makes our game great is that through the handicap system, a scratch player can play against an 18 handicapper and have a great match. The Northern California

Section of the PGA of America is proud to offer playing op- portunities for golfers of all abilities in the coming season. In preparation for these events, I encourage you to contact our two-time player of the year JASON SCHMUHL of Windsor GC, our four-time senior player of the year MICHAEL COOK of Mountain Springs GCC or our assistant player of the year STEVE

WATANABE JR. of the Bridges GC for a lesson. We are pleased to introduce the NCPGA California State Club Pro Club Champion Championship, formerly known as the TaylorMade-adidas Club Pro Club Champion Cham- pionship. The event will be presented by Nike Golf and the Eldorado Hotel Casino Reno. This two-day event, which pairs a PGA club professional and club champion from each respective facility, will be held April 25-26 in Reno. This is a great opportunity for you and your club professional to play competitive golf, take home fabulous tee prizes and represent your facility. Mark your calendars for

the 2nd Annual Sierra Nevada Open presented by Eldorado Hotel Casino Reno. This three- day open championship will be held in Reno July 26-28. Not only does this event offer a great

competitive experience, but the winner receives an exemption into the PGA Tour’s Reno- Tahoe Open. The Northern California

Open, one of the most storied and prestigious tournaments in the state, has been con- tested since 1920 and boasts a roster of past champions that includes Boyd Summerhays, David Sutherland, Bill Glas- son and Peter Jacobsen. With an increased purse and quality venue the Northern California Open presented by Rolling Hills Casino will be held at its home course Sevillano Links Septem- ber 12-14. We are proud to offer

competition for senior com- petitors at the Senior Northern California Open presented by Carson Valley Inn September 26-27 at Genoa Lakes GC; the top-notch venue will offer senior participants a memorable play- ing experience.

Lastly, be sure to contact

your local PGA professional regarding playing opportunities at your facility as well as pro-am events throughout the region. The events are a great way for you to network with your col- leagues and meet new people. For more information on

participating contact the North- ern California PGA Section Office at 707/449-4742 or visit www.NCPGA.com. On behalf of the 1,100 PGA professionals and apprentices working at more than 350 facilities in North- ern California, we encourage you to experience one of these great events. Competition is a large part of golf and will only enhance your appreciation and enjoyment of the game.
