DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD BRIAN and JULI INKSTER
were recognized with the NCGA’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, at the Association’s annual meeting in early December at Round Hill. Brian Inkster has served
as head golf professional for more than 30 years at Los Altos GCC. He was an outstanding junior golfer and began his professional career at Pasatiempo where he taught a promising junior, Juli Simpson. She would later become his wife and mother of two daughters. For years, Brian has avidly supported junior golf through lessons and equip- ment for under- privileged children from the East Palo Alto Golf Associa- tion. He has also graciously provided practice and play- ing opportunities for developing
juniors needing a venue to work on their games. Juli Inkster is a member of LPGA Hall of Fame. Her three consecutive U.S. Women’s Amateur titles, 31 LPGA titles (includ- ing seven majors) and seven Solheim Cup teams illustrate one of the finest playing careers in LPGA history. Through her profes- sionalism and personality, she is a role model and inspiration for the LPGA and young golfers, as well as ambassador for the game in Northern California. Because of the couple’s
combined careers, efforts and contributions to golf, the NCGA was pleased to bestow its most prestigious award to the Inksters.
IN MEMORIAM LYLE WEHRMAN, one of the most influential mem- bers in the history of the Northern California PGA Section, passed away peacefully at his home in 2010. He was 94. Wehrman was a
member of the PGA of America since 1939 and was inducted into the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame.
The former head
professional at Diablo CC, Merced GCC and Sunol Valley is a past recipient of the Hor- ton Smith Award, for contributions to PGA education. In 2006, the NCGA honored him with its prestigious Distin- guished Service Award.
