OUR TRANSFORMATION:

For the first time in its history, Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield welcomed 100,000 visitors in 2009. This number includes daily visitors, facility rental guests and attendees of special events such as concerts, Corn Maze, Pumpkin Festival and Trail of Lights.

The Pumpkin Festival in October attracted a record crowd of 28,000 people.

A new outdoor amphitheater was christened in August with a Chris Isaak concert, followed one week later by a concert from the Pretenders.

A new water feature was installed near the pedestrian bridge. The new Local Foods Festival at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield helped people – especially those in the west Denver foothills – connect to their local food resources and learn how to make their own gardens more productive.

2009 Denver Botanic Gardens Annual Report

Funding for the new Community Supporting Agriculture (CSA) program at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield was secured from Kaiser Permanente.

A new, 8,000-square-foot greenhouse facility was built at the site, allowing the safe upkeep and maintenance of our invaluable horticulture collections during construction on the Greenhouse Complex at the York Street location. After the plant collections are moved back to York Street, the Chatfield greenhouses will be used to help implement the CSA program and provide additional growing space for the horticultural staff at the site for years to come.
