on Capital Pride, see Page 38.

THE SECOND CITY 50TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW

Chicago is the Second City’s home, but after two trips to Washington (with “Barack Stars”) in the past year, the Nation’s Capital is beginning to look like a favored getaway for the legendary improvisers. They return Friday and Saturday at 7:15 and 9:45 p.m. with the Second City 50th Anniversary Tour, featuring material, written by Second City alums including Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey. IMAGINATION BETHESDA

Saturday FREE

Take it from someone who played Humpty Dumpty in a high school performance of “The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf” at Imagination Bethesda: Your 12-and-unders will love the yearly arts festival’s mix of entertainers, craft

workshops and, yes, goofily costumed performers willing to do anything for a giggle. Kids can create crafts while adults enjoy food from Bethesda eateries from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. At Woodmont Avenue and Elm Street, Bethesda. (Metro: Bethesda). 301-215-6660. www.bethesda.org.

BELTWAY BBQ SHOWDOWN

Saturday

We’re of the mind that any barbecue is good barbecue, and if you’re like us, you will be left sticky-fingered and sauce-smeared by the Beltway BBQ Showdown from noon to 5 p.m. But here’s the kicker: Contestants from up and down the East Coast are hoping their top-secret pork, beef, chicken or ribs recipe is good enough to win the day’s big prize — a trip to the American Royal Barbecue Contest in Kansas City. Watkins Regional Park, 301 Watkins Park Dr., Upper Marlboro. 301-699-2456. www.pgparks. com/festivals. Free admission.

COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT, SUMMER 2010

Join film critics Joe Barber and Bill Henry for a glimpse at the cinematic summer ahead. Trailers from upcoming summer blockbusters-to-be (and not to-be), including “Toy Story 3,” “Salt,” “The Expendables” and “Dinner for Schmucks,” will be screened, along with, we’re sure, an amusing side of snark. You’ll be able to vote for your favorites. Get tickets at the box office beginning at 6 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m. Landmark’s E Street Cinema, 555 11th St. NW (Metro: Metro Center). 202-452-7672. $8, cash or check only.

GOING OUT GUIDE HAPPY HOUR

Thursday

After last month’s skeeball-themed affair at the Big Hunt, we’re continuing the sporting theme for June’s Going Out Guide happy hour at the Bullpen

before watching some baseball. Join us at 5 p.m. for beer specials, free food (while it lasts) and plenty of corn-hole before heading to Nationals Park, where the Pittsburgh Pirates are in town for a 7:05 p.m. game (purchase game tickets at Tickets.com). The Bullpen, 1299 Half St. SE (Metro: Navy Yard). 202-646-0045. www. thebullpendc.com. Free admission.

THE BIG QUIZ THING

Thursday

William McKinley was the only U.S. president between 1869 and 1913 who did not wear what? If this type of esoterica ignites your inner nerd, check out quizmaster Noah Tarnow’s multimedia trivia game that will test the depth of your knowledge in categories including “The Bipolar Movie Challange” and “Breakfast Cereal Haiku.” So get your friends together Thursday at 8 p.m. and impress them when you correctly answer the above question: a moustache. Palace of Wonders, 1210 HSt. NE. 202-398-7469. www.palaceofwonders.com. $8.

MUSEUM WALK WEEKEND

Saturday and Sunday FREE

It’s worth an occasional reminder that there are museums in this town that aren’t named Smithsonian.
