Manatee Meet the
Their egg-shaped heads, flat flippers, and fan-shaped tails are hard to miss. Manatees are often spotted in shallow, coastal areas. They graze on sea grasses and algae.
Manatees can measure up to 4 meters long and can weigh almost 1,200 kilograms.
Manatees eat 10 percent of their body weight in plants every day. It takes about seven days for a manatee to digest each day's food.
Large, strong tails power their swimming. Manatees can do somersaults and barrel rolls. They can also swim upside down.
