OF INSPIRATION EDITOR’S MESSAGE

A YEAR

I’m amazed at how quickly this year has flown. Last fall, we introduced a prototype edition of this magazine at our Network Showcase in Baltimore. The reception was one of both excite- ment and speculation as we were entering a new space, with a new publication—with some lofty goals. At the top of that list was to seek out and deliver unique local stories of the people behind the companies and projects in our industry—stories that would hopefully inspire and resonate with our readers far beyond the jobsite.

Well, 32 bi-annual, regional editions and nearly one million

copies of The Who’s Who in Building and Construction later, I’m equally amazed at how powerful these stories turned out to be. They exemplify what the people driving this industry are all about: resilience, perseverance—and heart. We toured the country and met some incredible individuals with equally incredible stories, including:

— A pro football legend who fought back from personal tragedy to give back to his local industry, community and fellow war veterans in Western Pennsylvania

— A non-profit group of industry “angels” in South Florida who provide financial and emotional support to families of construction roadside fatalities

— A fourth generation, national firm, celebrating 125 years of construction innovation and customer service without compromising the midwestern values it was built on

These are just a sample of the many uplifting experiences we have shared with you in our inaugural editions of The Who’s Who. I encourage you to visit www.thewhoswho.build to see all of the inspiring stories featured in our regional editions. Inside each issue, you’ll also find an updated Network Buyers’ Guide for direct access to an exclusive group of local building and construction professionals. You can easily download these digital editions to put that content right at your fingertips—whenever and wherever you need it.

I’m feeling energized as we begin planning our course for year two and your feedback will certainly help guide us. Please continue to send us your ideas and suggestions for improvement at whoswho@thebluebook.com. In a year of often dispiriting world and national headlines, we hope you have found The Who’s Who to be a welcome source of both information and inspiration.
