MY LAX LIFE
LACROSSE GAVE ME FAILURE AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO GROW FROM IT.
When people ask me where I played lacrosse, I proudly say, “Delaware.” I pause, and then qualify my answer. “I played for the club team.” I’m not a lacrosse insider. I enjoyed playing scholastically on Long Island, transferred schools and promptly realized my limitations when I was cut from the team at a Catholic league power. I found fulfi llment instead in a well-rounded high school experience, becoming an all-league setter in volleyball, playing the saxophone in jazz and wind ensembles, taking AP courses and writing for the student newspaper — none of which, I realize, sounds nearly as cool as playing lacrosse, but all of which provided valuable experiences. Lacrosse gave me failure and the opportunity to grow from it. For that, I am thankful. Two years later, as a freshman at Delaware, I met an incredible group of guys who played on the club team. They came from all walks of life and lacrosse. Some were legit players, Division I recruits who wanted more out of their college experience than just lecture halls and locker rooms. Others moonlighted in the sport to meet girls (without much success) or just to have fun. The next day, I asked my dad to dig out of our basement closet my Brine Edge and Warrior Kryptolite long pole. A package arrived at my dorm that week, my love for lacrosse rekindled. Lacrosse gave me a second chance. For that, I am thankful.
I look at my wedding pictures today and see two of my DLC teammates as groomsmen. Across the aisle, two of my wife’s bridesmaids worked with us at US Lacrosse, where we met. Lacrosse gave us family and friendship. For that, I am eternally thankful.

WHY I PLAY
GO PRO WITH TEAM USA
We all have different stories and different backgrounds. And we may play for different reasons. But lacrosse brings us together. It’s not about who you are or where you came from. It’s about the game we love. Lacrosse is for everyone. Watch the “Why I Play” video at
