“SHE WAS THE BEST SCOUT
PLAYER IN THE COUNTRY.” — Jenny Levy
WHEN TO SPECIALIZE
Even your kids’ doctors are saying multi- sport participation is the way to go. According to a recent report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), athletes should not specialize in a single sport at least until they reach puberty, and preferably not until later in adolescence (age 15-16).
THE BIGGEST RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH EARLY SPECIALIZATION ARE:
• Intense training leading to overuse injuries.
• Being socially isolated from their peers.
• Burnout, anxiety and depression.
• Missing out on exposure to other sports they may find more enjoyable and rewarding.
