They’ve played since they were kids. We always go out and toss it around. I used to be the best one. Now I’m the worst.
When I watch you coach, very rarely do I ever see nerves. When you watch Amanda coach — she’s the head coach at Holy Cross — how is that experience for you?
It’s a lot tougher being a parent, especially when they’re a coach, because you live and die on every possession, on every play. I’m really proud of her and proud of all the kids, particularly what they’ve

done in lacrosse and football. For her, it gets the blood pressure up a little bit watching her coach.
The Bill Belichick Foundation provides coaching mentorship, QDQFLDO DVVLVWDQFH WR individuals and organizations in football and lacrosse. How did that all start?
Those two sports have been great to my family, going back to my dad, who lived the American dream. His father worked in a steel mill. He played high school football, got a scholarship to college, lived
in the gym, worked his way through college, went on to coach and was able to, through football, have a career and not be a steel worker his whole life. It’s an opportunity to give back to worthy students, worthy organizations that need financial assistance. [Football and lacrosse] have been really good to me and my family for three generations.

When you go to a lacrosse game or you watch on TV, what do you normally focus on?
I really like to watch off ball on the offensive end. There’s so much going on in front of the crease. I love the faceoffs, the loose balls, the extra-man strategy offensively and defensively, the slides and how quickly that’s done. The game’s changed a lot since I played.
