PARDON THE DISRUPTION W

SOMETIMES LEADERSHIP REQUIRES DISRUPTION AND INNOVATION.

elcome to the new US Lacrosse Magazine. Founded in 1978 simply as Lacrosse Magazine, this is the longest running and most widely read lacrosse publication in the world. As the new title suggests, we intend to refocus our communications. Many view US Lacrosse membership as a transactional requirement to play, coach or officiate rather than as a meaningful investment in the sport’s future. Members and donors are investors whose support drives our nonprofit’s mission to “provide national leadership, structure and resources to fuel the sport’s growth and enrich the experience of participants.” While there is far more to accomplish, the progress US Lacrosse has made toward realizing that mission has been substantial, but we haven’t told that story well. That’s about to change.

The pages of this magazine and the content in our social media and web platforms now will provide far greater insight on what your support enables us to accomplish. We’re leading in the areas of safety and education. We’re leading the introduction of new concepts focused on improving player development. We’re leading the expansion of the sport. Your membership fuels these priorities and many more. Sometimes leadership requires disruption and innovation. US Lacrosse was disruptive when eight organizations unified to form the organization in 1998. That innovative spirit continues today in response to the changing landscape of lacrosse and increasingly complex challenges that influence the sport’s culture and vitality. The Lacrosse Athlete Development Model (“The Case for Evolution,” page 32) exemplifies this spirit. We intend to better connect you with our mission and vision, inform you about the impact of US Lacrosse and engage you in our efforts. Please let us know how we’re doing.
