CRADLE
I do a cradle or two and make sure the ball is where I want it in my stick. I’m cradling with the stick behind the defender before I reach back for the shot.
PLANT
I put my left foot forward and I step into it. Occasionally, I’ll do a hop step into the shot, but planting my feet and following through with it is pretty much it.
ARMS
After I put my foot forward, I just pull my arms back. If I want to shoot it low, I keep my shoulder high and keep the ball low. So it looks like I’m coming back high, but I won’t actually go high. I just lift my shoulder a little and drop my hands.
EYES I just pick my spot and shoot.
laxmagazine.com A FAMILY AFFAIR
For my family back at home, watching the NCAA championship game and the final four is like the Super Bowl for us. We always have our own family party. We went hard for that. It’s a dream come true. It’s pretty awesome to think about.
GAIT’S INFLUENCE
He’s taught me how to be creative and be deceptive with the ball on my stick – how to trick defenders and trick the goalie and just being able to use powerful shots and how to hitch and bury on my shots. I’ve learned everything from him and watching him and emulating what he does.
A
» My left foot will still be in front, but my back foot will sometimes come across my feet from behind.
FEET
» In high school, I would always do the side arm that I do, but I would always make it a riser and bring it up top. [Coach Gary Gait] told me to change it a little and keep it down low.
RISER FOLLOW THROUGH
nything [Treanor] does, I’m like, “Wow.” Definitely the way she can do the back-handed shot. It’s pretty incredible she gets the power that she does. I’m still working on it in practice, but not in the games yet. Soon.
»
I reach back and follow through all the way, making sure my arms don’t come off and I get that full rotation of my whole body and put everything into my shot.
READY » It’s such
a quick motion that if I had to get a rebound, I’m ready for that. I’m moving toward the goal because the more momentum I have going to the goal, the better the shot would be.
