Synchronized skating award winners announced

Synchronized Skating Challenge Series winners Eight teams from the East and eight

from the Midwest are champions of the 2017 Synchronized Skating Challenge Series. A total of 103 teams from the Eastern

and Midwestern sections registered to take part in this year’s Challenge Series. All teams competing in the synchro skills 1, synchro skills 2, synchro skills 3, preliminary, pre-ju- venile, juvenile and open juvenile divisions are eligible to participate. Ten competitions in the East and 11 in the Midwest took place between Nov. 14, 2016, and Feb. 20, 2017. Teams earn points based on their top

three placements at the designated com- petitions. While the rules state teams must compete in at least three competitions, many teams took part in five or six events. Points earned are weighted based on the number of teams entered in any particular event. Teams are then ranked by the number of points they receive over the three competitions. U.S. Figure Skating tracks and displays the series point standings on its website. At the end of the season, the Synchro-

nized Skating Challenge Series champions are determined. All competitors receive a participation pin, with the top three teams from each level, in each section, receiving medals.

While most skaters in the series will not compete against teams from outside their region, this program gives them the chance to compare points with teams from across the country. Tis program allows teams to expand their competitive opportunities and compete in a fun, nationwide competitive program.
