‘’Amazing’

BY JASON BROWN The NBC/USOC media summit in Los

Angeles marked the first Winter Olympics promo event of the year. Along with that, it was my first Olympic photo shoot. And let me just say, it was AMAZING! There were 96 winter athletes who were scattered across five days of activity. The skaters started shooting on the fourth day and were joined by a few people from other sports. Before heading to the photo and inter-

view shoots, we were told to bring a suitcase full of different clothes — what we’d wear for a night out, for workouts, our costumes, dressy clothes, casual clothes and anything else we wanted that shows off our individual personalities. Who knew we’d have to pack so much for one day? There were about 20 different sets that

A VIDEO SHOOT WITH COOKIE MONSTER TOPS THE DAY

we visited throughout the day, but every- one started around 8 a.m. with breakfast, makeup and hair before venturing off to our different obligations. Then each skater went to a different station and rotated around throughout the day. At 9 a.m., we were off and running! Every photo station had a completely

different look and feel, so every 15 to 20 minutes we were taken to a whole new world. The central station featured a giant American flag. Go Team USA! The other set- ups ranged from super colorful to just plain white and everything in between — like a “Game of Thrones”-inspired chair made of winter sports equipment. There was even a photo shoot where I got to choose between posing with a baby goat, a golden retriever puppy, two little pugs, a piglet and a kitten. How do you pick just one? While everything was amazing, for me, the best part was the people running each shoot. It was so much fun getting to know and work with every- one.

Throughout the day, I posed for photos

dressed in official Team USA gear, in my skates and competition costumes, with mist, with fake snow and even wax ice. It was all so exciting, but maybe the best of all? I got to do a video shoot with Cookie Monster! It

felt like I was dreaming. It wasn’t all photos and social videos,

though. There were lots of interviews — some fun and some serious — so NBC and their affiliates could get to know us and hear our stories. As they begin promoting the Games, fans will get to know all of us — the people behind the performances. I can’t believe the Olympic season is upon us, but it’s really here. The day didn’t conclude until around

6:45 p.m., but at that time, we all got to see each other again for a big group photo on Stage 1 — a giant studio stage made to look just like the mountains of PyeongChang, South Korea. Even though the day was about 12 nonstop hours, I truly could have continued because I was having the best time posing, dancing and talking my way through each station. It’s honestly my favorite thing when all

of us skaters get together in such a light- hearted setting, where we can just enjoy ourselves. The whole thing makes me so happy and excited about the year ahead. I can’t wait to see what this season brings for everyone.
