USA Volleyball CEO Jamie Davis takes over new role with a goal of taking the sport to a higher level with his vast marketing and television background

VolleyballUSA: What do you see as your primary mission now that you arguably have the most important job in volleyball in the United States?

J.D: As the CEO of volleyball’s national governing body, my primary

mission is growing U.S. participation in the game of volleyball with the end goal of improving our play at the national team level. At the grassroots level, I want every boy and girl to want to play, participate, thrive and choose volleyball as their favorite sport! I understand that this can sound quite lofty, but I am confi dent that by approaching the game in a different way, we at USAV can make signifi cant headway toward achieving success. I believe that it starts from the top – at the national team level.

Through new marketing and brand awareness initiatives, we can create recognizable idols out of our national team players and coaches – people that our youth want to emulate. We will connect with our kids in the digital and social worlds that they live and immerse volleyball into their

everyday lives. By doing so, we can create new sponsorship opportuni- ties which will drive new revenue streams to USAV which, in turn, we can reinvest into the 40 Regional Volleyball Associations, as well as the junior, high performance and national team programs. All of this should create a stronger and more robust pipeline for volleyball in the United States, which should translate to even greater success for our national teams on the world stage.

The NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship semifi nals were televised in December on ESPN for the fi rst time, which led to higher ratings. What are your thoughts on how the sport can get more TV exposure as well as increased media coverage?

The media landscape is at a crossroads, which presents a wonderful

opportunity for USA Volleyball going forward. There have never been more outlets to reach sports fans whether through traditional media

I want our stars to be role models, mentors and legends for the kids in America so that they have one dream every night ... being just like them.
