lifting weights to improve her perfor- mance in tennis, and track and field. At the beginning of her career, Fuhrman lifted side-by-side with men, many times the only woman in the gym. As she honed her skills, success followed. Fuhrman won two Olympic Festival gold medals, two North American, Central American and Caribbean Is- land Zone (NACACI) gold medals, a bronze medal at the World Champion- ships and set more than a dozen Amer- ican records.

2016 LAURIE LOPEZ Anyone who has been involved with USA Weightlifting for the last two decades knows who Laurie Lopez is. A friendly voice on the phone, a smiling face at countless camps at the Olympic Training Center or the go-to person to get questions answered, Lopez was inducted into the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame at the 2016 National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. After 19 years of
2016 OSCAR CHAPLIN III A familiar face among weightlifting fans, Chaplin en- tered the Hall of Fame earlier this year. As a two-time Olympian, Chaplin was the first American to win a Junior World Champi- onship title in 2000. Until June of this year, Chaplin was the only American to claim a Junior World Championship title. Chaplin began competing at age 9 and he won his first national title at the age of 11. Chaplin was also the youngest person to make a Junior National team at the age of 12. Weightlifting runs in the Chaplin family. Oscar’s siblings have also been in- volved in the sport, and his brother, Jim Chaplin, was on the Junior World Cham- pionships team in 2000 when Oscar won gold. Chaplin represented Team USA in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Chaplin set numerous American records, some of which still stand today. Chaplin remains active in the sport, coaching ath- letes toward their Olympic dreams.
2016 DIANA FUHRMAN Diana Fuhrman is a pioneer for women’s weightlifting in the United States. A four-time national champion and six-time World Champi- onship team member, Fuhrman started

1994 alone, he broke 10 American records, and was, at the time, believed to be the first lifter ever to hold all three American Records in three different weight catego- ries. McRae represented Team USA at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He is a 5-time national champion and won a silver in snatch and a bronze in total at the 1995 Pan Am Games. McRae is a 4-time World Championships team member, 3-time World Cup champion, a two-time Junior World team member and won the U.S. Olympic Festival five times. McCrae now a weightlifting coach at New Smyrna Beach High School in Florida.
