Wins 2 World Championships in 2016 Before 2016 it had been 46 years since an American male set a new World Record. CJ Cummings (69kg) set three world re- cords. In June at the Junior World Cham- pionships in Tbilisi, Georgia, Cummings set a new Youth World Record with a 175kg clean & jerk lift. Moments later he broke that record with a 180kg lift. He set another Youth World Record with a total of 317kg. Cummings became the sec- ond American ever to win a Junior World Championship. It was the first time an American set a new world record since 1994 when 2000 Olympian Robin Byrd- Goad did it in 1994. Cummings was the first American male since Artie Drechsler who set a world record in 1970. Five months later in November, Cummings set a new Youth World Record in the clean & jerk with a 182kg lift. Cummings went on to win the Youth World Championship, his second world championship of the year.
