COUNTDOWN TO TOKYO 2020
With the calendar turning over to 2017, and the Games of the
XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, still fresh in our memory, preparations are well underway for the next Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. In 2020, fans will be given unprecedented access to the
Weightlifting action, according to Tokyo 2020 Weightlifting Sport Administrator Reiko Chinen. The Tokyo International Forum will be home to Weightlifting
for the 2020 Games. The tower of glass and steel will be trans- formed into Weightlifting utopia. Spanning 11 floors, one story will be dedicated to training. There, fans will be able to watch athletes’ final preparations before competing on the world’s greatest stage. Located in the heart of Tokyo, the Weightlifting venue will
serve as a perfect meeting spot for fans attending the Games. “There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops right outside,
and many subways and train stations nearby,” Reiko said. The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Para-
lympic Games has designated two rings in central Tokyo that will house a majority of the Olympic competitions. Weightlifting’s venue, the Tokyo International Forum, lies in the Heritage Zone. The neighboring Tokyo Bay Zone houses many other venues in- cluding the Olympic Village and International Broadcast Center.
