Reds Honor Greats With Statues
Reds legend Tony Perez has been immortalized with a statue outside the team’s ballpark.
Te Cincinnati Reds have a long and glorious history. To honor the players in the franchise’s Hall of Fame, statues ring the Reds’ Great American Ball Park.
Artist Tom Tsuchiya uses 18-in. ceramic models and supplies them to Exact Metrology, a supplier of 3-D and CT imaging equipment. When Tsuchiya created Tony Perez’s statue in 2015, the scan of the model was prepared as a high-density electronic file with over a mil- lion points of information per second captured. Te file was then sent to Sincerus, a bronze art caster in Indianapolis, who took the point
cloud data and prepared a mold for the statue. Te brass is poured to produce a statue, then sculpted by Tsuchiya into his final creation. Tsuchiya has also created the ballpark’s statues for Johnny Bench,
Ted Kluszewski, Ernie Lombardi, Joe Morgan, Joe Nuxhall, Frank Robinson, and Pete Rose.
