Portable Microscope for Toolmakers

Te new X-axis Model XAM-1 measuring mi- croscope from Titan Tool Supply Inc., Buffalo, N.Y, provides flex- ibility, speed and accu- racy for routine measurements. Te new mi- croscope is designed to offer a low-cost alternative to a standard toolmaker’s microscope or a video measuring sys- tem. Te portable Titan Tool XAM-1 can be placed over any workpiece to measure from point A to point B or any intermediate point along a straight line within the field of view. Five optional objectives are available (from 2-20X)

along with an optional 20X eyepiece. Visit www.titantoolsupply.com for more information.

Automated Melt Transport System with Pressure-Tight Lid

StrikoWestofen, Gummersbach, Germany, has developed a new closed system to transport the melt to the dosing or holding furnace. Te Schnorkle is filled directly at the melting furnace, where the pressure-tight semi-cover is closed. Te system then moves the melt without atmospheric exposure. With a pressure-sealed transfer ladle, the melt is then fed directly into the filling funnel of the furnace using a transfer pipe to ensure a uniform flow rate and reproducible process flows. Te Schnorkle elimi- nates the need to tip casting ladles above the filling funnel with a lift truck. Te newly developed system

increases automation and safety for its operators. Visit www.strikowestofen.com for more information.

Handheld Volatile Organic Compound Meter for Casting Operations

Te HHAQ-107 meter from Omega Engineering Inc., Stamford, Conn., is designed to make general measurements of mixed gas vola- tile organic compound (VOC) levels as part of an indoor air quality maintenance program. Te HHAQ-107 can detect ammonia, toluene, ethanol and hydrogen sulfide. Features include 32,000 data logging points, free powerful data logging software and an adjustable high

VOC concentration audible alarm. Visit www.omega.com for more information.
