AFS NEWS

AFS NEWS “ My sponsored webinar

with Metal Casting Design & Purchasing exceeded all my expectations. I consider this program to be the single best lead generation investment I’ve made in the last 10 years.

David Weiss Vice President, Sales & Engineering Eck Industries Inc.

Webinar Highlights Connecting Across Generations & Gender Karen Murphy, founder of Work/Life Pursuit, gave the

fi rst dedicated webinar for Women in Metalcasting, a special interest group sponsored by AFS focused on providing a platform for women for networking, mentorship and the sharing of ideas, experiences and best practices. During the October webinar, participants talked about making connec- tions across generations and gender to achieve work and life goals, including: • Identifying generational perspectives and gender bias.

• Sharing experiences and strategies to connect. • Living your own work/life blend to achieve your goals. During the webinar, Murphy shared four patterns of gen- der bias with the group. Participants took a poll to see which patterns they encountered. T en, the group discussed three strategies to achieve work and life goals by connecting across generational assumptions and gender bias. • Be mindful of fi rst impressions and adapt your approach to best project your capabilities.

• Seek opportunities to build relationships to allow people to get to know you as an individual.

• Find your champion and be a champion for others to overcome incorrect assumptions. “One woman in a male dominated fi eld can feel isolating,

but women together in groups like Women in Metalcast- ing—sharing experiences and building work/life strategies— are powerful,” Murphy said. T e Women in Metalcasting group is open to AFS Mem-

bers. To join, please contact AFS technical and informtion services coordinator Katie Matticks at katie@afsinc.org.
