1- Locking up a traditional high gut wrench, notice our chest is too high on the opponent.


(for demonstration purposes) 5a 4 4 - Start the gut with


straight arms to help pull the opponent into us to break the 90-degree angle. Once we pull


back, we can squeeze our hands toward us to tighten the lock.

5A - Our opponent posts his/her hand to try and counter our high gut wrench. We lift the opponent up and drive over their post arm (continue to gut wrench) or ...


6 - Notice key positions through the gut wrench: 1. Opponent is loaded in our hips so we can use hip power to drive through the move 2. Our knees are pointed up toward the ceiling, helping trap our opponent and load power into our legs for the turn.

2 - We walk our shoulder back lower on the opponent’s ribs to create more pressure.


Notice we are straddling the opponent’s near leg and driving forward with our legs.


3 - If the opponent allows their elbow to bend under, we execute a traditional high gut wrench.
