YMCA Integrates Services With VA T
he OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA at Pike in Greater Indianapolis will be the first YMCA facility of its kind to offer tra- ditional YMCA community program- ming alongside clinical services for veterans and special programming for servicemembers and their fami- lies, thanks to a $3.5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. “The opening of the new OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA at Pike is a major step forward for Indianapo- lis and underscores the tremendous importance of providing the key health services our [servicemembers] and their families need,” says former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, a 23-year veteran of the Marine Corps. “The Indianapolis metro area is home to tens of thousands of military veter-
ans, and this new facility will provide that important space to better serve these members of our community.” A full-service facility for the en-
tire community, the new OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA at Pike is sched- uled to open in 2018 and will partner with the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. Roudebush staff will provide spe- cialized medical services at the new facility in 5,000 square feet of space dedicated to veterans. Services planned include physical therapy,

occupational therapy, pain manage- ment, and counseling.
In addition to medical services
offered by the VA, the YMCA will use space at Pike and in other India- napolis metro locations to provide special programs for veterans as well as servicemembers and their families. These include financial health train- ing, job support, wellness coaching, adaptive sports, and nutrition and healthy cooking classes. For more information, visit
