Rapid Fire Responses Of course women should register for the draft if they are going to be fully integrated, otherwise a class-action lawsuit would follow based upon unquestionable inequity between the genders [“Integrating Women,” Rapid Fire, April 2016]. The issue that should be addressed (I can only assume our senior general officers have shrugged their collective shoulders and caved) is the readiness issues that will occur by this full integration of women into all combat arms units and functions. It is sheer nonsense to believe that


complete equity must be achieved and to ensure this equity that men and women should serve in close-quarters combat duty under all circumstances. Bold, forceful rejection of this con- cept should have been voiced by lead- ers at all levels, especially those at the general officer level. I am afraid, however, that there are far too many yes-men and -women in our current armed forces hierarchy to have the courage to do so. — Maj. Charles P.B.
