Aviation Soldiers Train in Denmark
M
ore than 70 soldiers and four Army AH-64 Apache heli- copters from 1st Battalion, 3rd
Aviation Regiment, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade supported units from the 1st and 2nd brigades of the Royal Danish Army during Operation White Sword at Oksbøl Training Area in Denmark Dec. 4-10, 2015. Operation White Sword is a force-on-
force exercise, with more than 1,000 partic- ipants from Denmark, the U.S., and the U.K., aimed at building interoperability between NATO combat arms maneuver elements. The exercise culminated in a combined- arms, live-fire event, which synchronized
armor, field artillery, and rotary wing avia- tion assets in a land-operations scenario. Bravo company “Warlords,” 1-3 Attack
Reconnaissance Battalion (ARB), executed three days of deliberate live-fire operations against a simulated beach landing. The AH- 64s also conducted route reconnaissance alongside Danish Leopard 2 tanks. “This exercise was a culmination of
our training and a proof of concept for us,” said CW3 Christopher Moore, an instruc- tor pilot from Bravo company, 1-3 ARB. “It worked seamlessly with a company com- mander controlling us from the ground.” — Sgt. Thomas Mort, USA
