future generations with mountains of debt (“Democrats Bear Brunt of Obamanomics in 2016,” December). bill momeno St. Charles, Mo.

LAW OF THE LAND There are few laws that will actually pass the constitutional test. Governments do not pass laws for people’s protection or to secure the rights of anyone other than the government itself, or its benefactors (“Newt Gingrich: a Law Created Without Authority,” January). There is always deceit behind

SCOTT WALKER’S MOMENT Scott Walker’s noble fight with the unions shows he’s ready for the White House (“Ready for the Call,” February). Unions of every stripe have been bullying the nation for decades, and it was high time someone put a stop to it. Is there not a similar global scenario playing out right now, with Islamic terrorism holding everyone hostage? That calls for strong U.S. leadership. Maybe Scott Walker will answer that call and do for the nation (and the world, for that matter!) what he did for the state of Wisconsin.

WHERE IS CONSERVATISM? Jeb Bush simply doesn’t feel right, just as neither John McCain nor Mitt Romney felt right but were nevertheless pushed forward by a GOP that still hasn’t learned anything about what Republicans want or need to run this country. Gruber is right after all, two

misses not enough? We need staunch conservatism! (“GOP Midterm Rout Sets Up 2016 Agenda,” December). john mcculogh Hollywood, Calif.

DEBT BLUNDER We have all heard the estimated national debt now stands at $18 trillion, which is a large number

that it is difficult to grasp. The national debt is the amount owed by the government, which is really every citizen of the United States of America. If we spread this throughout the population of 319 million people, it would mean that each and every one of us would receive a tax bill of about $56,400 to pay this debt . . . so the question is, Will the U.S. government declare bankruptcy? With all due respect, President

Barack Obama, and the Senate and House of Representatives, please stop spending more than your revenue, i.e., our money and placing your fellow U.S. citizens in financial bondage. We are saddling

every act of legislation no matter how well-conceived lawmakers’ rationalization, just as there is always a majority of gullible people willing to accept lawmakers’ reasoning as true and legitimate concern for public interest or safety.

NOTE TO CONGRESS The GOP has very little ability to think beyond their nose. Krauthammer’s approach that Republicans should say to Obama “Bring it on,” is too soft. Congress, you are not in a position to play games with Obama. You cannot win! Do your job (“The Freshman Class of 2015,” January).

NO TO AMNESTY Defund that illegal amnesty bill. It circumvents the Constitution. Don’t delay the vote and try a sleight of hand and then claim you did not have enough votes. America is watching closely (“Obama’s Amnesty: Power Grab for 2016?” January). I refuse to send any money to Republicans who do not do the job America voted them in to do.
