Te CSL Service includes a collaborative


database containing an initial set of hazardous reaction incidents compiled by the Pistoia Alliance CSL Service project team, and a simple submission tool to collect further entries. Te service is open to the community at large, to grow the reaction incident dataset and to share the collected data. Safety incidents are relatively common


in laboratories, but many incidents, while reported internally, are not public knowledge, so similar incidents can happen again in

another organisation. Te CSL service hopes to reduce this as the dataset can be downloaded and integrated into companies’ proprietary systems and configured to alert scientists if there is a potential known safety risk, before they carry out an experiment. ‘With the launch of the CSL Service, we are addressing this long-standing issue with

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced that it has acquired informatics software provider Core Informatics – a company that specialises in cloud-based software to support scientific data management. In a press release, Thermo


Fisher stated that Core’s offerings will significantly enhance Thermo Fisher’s existing informatics solutions and complement its cloud platform,


which supports the company’s genetic analysis, qPCR and proteomics systems. ‘The scientific community is


rapidly adopting cloud-based laboratory and scientific data management capabilities,’ said Thomas Loewald, senior vice president and chief commercial officer, Thermo Fisher Scientific. ‘Integrating the leading technologies of Core Informatics is part of our strategy to set
