Dear Editor,
British Heart Foundation (BHF) shops are appealing to people across Wales to help fund life saving research by donating their unwanted Christmas presents to charity.
Strictly Come Dancing Pasha at The Grand Pavilion
The average person receives at least one Christmas gift they don’t want each year, according to statistics released by the BHF1, and with almost a third (32%) of people in Wales saying they feel guilty about getting a present they don’t want or won’t use, we’re urging the local community to turn this guilt into good by donating their unwanted Christmas gifts to BHF shops. We completely rely on the support of the community and last Christmas we were overwhelmed with the amazing gifts we received from people across the country. One person’s unwanted gift can be another person’s perfect present and 100 per cent of the profi ts raised from items donated will go into the fi ght against heart disease and fund the BHF’s life saving research.
BHF shops accept all kinds of unwanted gifts, everything from candles, Christmas jumpers, socks, games, handbags, books, DVDs and other items you no longer want. So this Christmas don’t hate it, donate it! To locate your nearest shop or to book a free collection visit
bhf.org.uk/ shops or call 0844 412 5000.
Yours Sincerely, Terry Hughes : BHF Area Manager
PSA: it’s still important to fi le your tax self assessment
As the 31 January self-assessment deadline looms, it’s important for taxpayers to understand the implications of changes to the Personal Savings Allowance (PSA), explains Chas Roy- Chowdhury, head of tax at ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certifi ed Accountants). “As of the 16/17 tax year, basic rate taxpayers can earn up to £1,000 in savings income tax-free, and higher rate taxpayers up to £500,” he says. “While this is, of course, good news for savers, it may also lead to some confusion around fi ling self- assessments. Some taxpayers may be under the impression that they no longer
have to fi le a self-assessment, or may have received communication from HMRC advising them that they now fall under the PAYE system only. “However, if a taxpayer has changed jobs or circumstances, they may still be eligible for a tax refund (or owe tax). If you have any doubt about your tax status, even if you have received communication from HMRC, I strongly recommend that you self-assess as usual despite PSA changes. “Online tax returns are due by midnight on the 31 January 2017, and it is worth remembering to register at least two weeks beforehand to allow enough time to complete the registration process.”
Winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2014, Pasha Kovalev, tours once again with his brand new show ‘Let’s Dance The Night Away’. 58 performances are scheduled throughout the UK from March - May 2017.
After the huge success of his ‘Life Through Dance’ and ‘It’s All About You’ tours over the last few years, Pasha will be joined again by his spectacular dancers including special guest Anja Garnis in an evening of live singing, dance, chatting and fun. In all the theatres, he’s dancing with local dance schools.
