Volvo Car UK shines a light on cyclist safety

Another Fine Year for Wales’ Food and Drinks Industry

Available from Volvo Cars Cardiff, Volvo Car UK has reintroduced LifePaint, the hugely popular refl ective spray designed to increase the visibility and safety of cyclists. Also now available to buy online, LifePaint is an innovative product that reacts to a vehicle’s headlights, warning drivers of the presence of cyclists in the dark. With more than 19,000 cyclists injured on the UK’s roads every year, the long dark nights are the perfect time to reintroduce this potentially life- saving safety product. LifePaint is invisible in daylight, but in the dark refl ects light in the same direction as the light source, shining brightly to illuminate the objects it has been sprayed on. The spray sticks to dry textiles and is most effective on fi brous materials such as cotton, fl eece, linen and certain nylons. It can also

be applied to shoes, helmets, pushchairs and children’s backpacks – and even dog leads and collars. Volvo is working in partnership with the makers of LifePaint, Swedish start-up Albedo100, to distribute the product online and via its dealer network. The reintroduction of LifePaint is being supported by an on- street advertising campaign, which includes 183 digital six- sheet sites on some of the most dangerous roads in and around London. LifePaint is available now at Volvo Cars Cardiff’s Penarth Road showroom and, for the fi rst time, online. Wales’ food and drink industry continued to prosper in 2016 and is well placed to deal with future challenges. That was the message when Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffi ths visited a Welsh food and drink success story. The Cabinet Secretary was at Abergavenny Fine Foods, the UK’s largest producer of fresh goat’s cheese, employing 130 staff, which last year enjoyed a turnover of £17.5 million. The Welsh Government offers a comprehensive range of programmes to support Welsh food and drink producers to increase sales in both the domestic and export markets. This includes offering bespoke one-to-one advice, identifying in-market opportunities and supporting companies to visit and exhibit in key overseas markets. In 2016 the Welsh Government continued to champion Wales’ world class food and drink at international trade events including, in October, at SIAL in Paris, one of the world’s largest food innovation and trade exhibitions. Over four days the Welsh Government joined fi fteen of our fi nest food and drink producers and Hybu Cig Cymru to promote a wide range of high quality, distinctively Welsh products. In addition, in 2016, the Welsh Governtment piloted for the fi rst time an innovative scheme involving fi ve food business cluster groups. More than 380 companies are now engaging with each other in ways that did not happen previously. In the fi rst year of the Pilot at least half a million pounds has been generated in additional income savings to group members through clustering. “As we look towards 2017 I am encouraged the sector is well placed to overcome future challenges. I’m particularly excited about the ‘Taste Wales’ event at the Celtic Manor in March. This will be the fi rst international food event held in Wales and will provide a shop window to international buyers and investors. It’s a great opportunity to tell our story of using our natural resources in a sustainable way and to sell our innovative products to the world”.
