Digital Entrepreneur Provides His Advice to Support Business Wales Campaign
headquarters. With digital expertise at the heart of Liberty Marketing’s success, here are Gareth’s top tips for entrepreneurs and business owners: 1. What advice would you give to your younger self? I heard a great quote recently that I’ll borrow for this… ’’It’ll be alright in the end. If it’s not alright, it’s not the end.” 2. What do you think is the most important characteristic for running a business? Determination. In business you hit so many bumps along the road and there is always a fi re to put out so it is easy to become disheartened. Unless you have conviction, a strong belief in what you are doing and are driving towards a goal you really want, then you’ll fi nd it very tough. I have seen many businesses fail not because the idea was bad or the cash ran out but because the founder lost their confi dence and gave up. You need to trust yourself and not take “no” as an answer. 3. What advice would you give to someone starting a business? Stand out. Don’t just copy what others have done but do it differently and do it better. If you can fi nd a genuine point of difference that satisfi es a need in a market then you’ll be in a very strong place. You will fi nd building a brand and winning work a lot easier and your business will be a more attractive acquisition prospect as rivals and investors want in on the action. I can’t emphasise enough how important this is - if I didn’t have a USP then I wouldn’t set up a business. 4. What advice would you give to someone who wants to grow their business further? Invest in digital marketing.

5. What is your motivation for setting up your business? I was a marketing manager in a past life that used a number of digital marketing agencies to help me in my job but I had terrible experiences time and time again, ranging from low quality work to poor customer experience. I thought that there was a need for an agency that took it a bit more seriously so founded Liberty. Eight years later and that motivation is still there, though the market and the business has changed greatly in that time. I want to provide great campaigns for clients and do my bit to push the marketing world forward, and fortunately I’ve found a motley bunch that share that vision and work with me at Liberty to do just that. 6.
