Glamorgan County Cricket Club is celebrating after a successful 2016, with record-breaking non-match day revenues exceeding 2015 financials by over 15%.

A YEAR OF SUCCESS FOR

GLAMORGAN

FROM HUGH MORRIS Glamorgan CEO

The Club also fulfilled an ambition in making The SSE SWALEC a multi-entertainment venue by hosting the first live music events last July. Kaiser Chiefs and Simply Red were the headline acts entertaining thousands of fans, whilst the venue also hosted the Foster’s Professional Darts Masters, which returned for a second time in sell-out fashion last month.

Cricket continued to thrive in 2016, further contributing to the club’s revenue. A record home crowd of over 10,000 cheered the T20 team in their first home quarter-final since 2004 and England’s final One-Day International against Pakistan was a sell-out.

Glamorgan Chief Executive Hugh Morris, said: “2016 was a fantastic year for Glamorgan Cricket. Our attendance figures were very encouraging and the team performed well on the pitch.

“Commercially we are delighted to have increased our non-match day revenue. While cricket is of course our bread and butter, it has long been a goal to make more of our excellent facilities when they aren’t being used for sport. The live events will continue to be part of our future business planning and we’re looking forward to hosting more in 2017.

“We also renewed our sponsorship with a number of key supporters including, MiPost, Discover Leeks, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Heineken, Brecon Carreg, SPTS Technologies and Vale Resort.”

Glamorgan’s hard work was also recognised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the club picked up the ‘ECB Business of Cricket Awards Digital Campaign Award’. There was also award success for the Cricket Beyond Boundaries BME programme which has

qualified 14 young volunteer ambassadors, our Museum finished runners-up in the Wales Museum Awards. Further in recent national ECB audits of the Academy and Science & Medicine, Glamorgan scored well in both and is now recognised as amongst the best in the country.

Hugh Morris said: “We are very lucky to have a team of dedicated staff at Glamorgan Cricket who go above and beyond to take cricket out to the community. As well as running community cricket programmes and encouraging youngsters in the sport, our staff raised thousands of pounds for charity in 2016.”

Glamorgan will continue to offer world-class cricket with The SSE SWALEC announced as the venue for two upcoming ICC events – with four games during this summer’s ICC Champions Trophy an exciting prospect and another four ICC Cricket World Cup games coming to Cardiff in 2019, sandwiching England internationals at the venue versus India and Australia in 2018.

“2017 promises to be another exciting year ahead,” added Morris, “but with the ongoing hard work of our team on and off the field, plus the support of our most ardent followers, our members, we can continue to make forward strides as a business and a Club.

Reform is needed to our governance and members will be aware that there is a recommendation from your Committee for important changes that were overwhelmingly supported by members in attendance at the forum last month. If adopted these governance arrangements will ensure that the Club is in the best possible position to face the financial, commercial and cricketing challenges that are ahead.”
