Given the growth of the various activities, three years ago Andy Richardson was appointed as Hire Manager. “Having previously worked for Banner Plant in Wakefield, and as a buyer for a construction company, my role has been to grow the hire business by targeting larger contractors, while retaining our core customer base of tradesmen, small builders and landscapers.
Fleet expansion
“Consequently, we have broadened the fleet. We now offer mini excavators, with four JCB 8014 1.5-tonne machines and two 8008 micros, as well as a Mace Bumpa hoist, Ezi-Cat cable locators from Cable Detection, and we have bought more core items like Youngman Boss towers, Belle mixers and compaction plates and Stihl cut-off saws, as well as landscaping equipment such as Husqvarna ride-on mowers and Hayter rotaries.
Having more space has enabled compact plant to be added to the fleet.
“We are also covering a wider area, supporting customers who are working in places like Leeds, York, Harrogate, Hull and Newcastle. They like our service and look to us to provide the kit they need. We have a lot of loyal customers and they appreciate our service,” said David. “For many, we are their first port of call. Some will even call us if they have an issue like a van with a flat battery, and, if we can, we are happy to help as we build that kind of relationship.”
“Looking back, we started Wetherby Tool Hire in the depths of the financial crisis and we have progressed by steadily investing in the fleet,” added Scott Fletcher. “If someone asked us for an item we did not have, we would invariably buy it so as to not lose their business. We have continued to grow and the outlook remains very positive. There is a great deal of housing development taking place, with two large estates and a supermarket being built close to our location, and our customer database is constantly growing.”
