FIRST LAUNCH COMMENTS Sept 2011

Harry Dunning’s low-freeboard flyer offers a super cool – and cool-looking – way into the growing mid-sized ‘HPR-style’ pure performance arena at a pretty remarkable price. 25 boats have already been built with three more currently on order

A new IRC racer from one of France’s IRC designers du jour Fast-growing class, smaller cheaper Soto 40 derivative All-carbon canting-keel racer, with input from Alain Gautier

Marcelo Botín enters the HPR market… Good for the designers and similarly good for HPR. This production-built design takes full advantage of extensive CFD and VPP work with a very refined hull and appendages package

(Very) fast canting-keel one-design – five boats sold Good-looking and fast racer-cruiser with powerful aft chines

Another one for the nascent Fast 40s. Particular attention has been paid to developing a hull form that planes downwind easily but that also delivers a competitive performance in light air. The latest boat will shortly head to the UK for Peter Morton

Light, fast and maybe just a little scary new mid-sized canting-keeler…

These heavily HPR-influenced mid-sized designs are now starting to roll out of the woodwork One-design coastal racer. High-performance – albeit with the après best taken ashore

Paul Hakes has teamed up with Hudson Yachts to deliver this thoroughly foxy-looking new flush-deck 42-footer. ORCi and HPR versions are now available with different-length keel fins. Five boats now sold… Several to Europe

A new Hungarian one-design for match race competitions Are these genuine new HPR designs, or is that just a handy catch-all for a non-specific boat type?

Lighter in displacement than its race-winning predecessor, the new Ker 40+ features a deeper fin as well as an increase in reserve buoyancy forward. Already winning in IRC, two more boats were recently sold to the UK making for 4 to date

The latest iteration of Verdier’s production Class 40 family Two examples of the latest model sold, taking the total towards 35 boats!

What looks likely to be another fast-cruising success from this growing manufacturer; built using vacuum-infusion technology, her lay-up incorporates a 20mm Divinycell foam core everywhere except in areas of very high loading

The first modern IRC design at the mid-size from Botín – series run planned Boat no1 greatly impressed her rivals with her pace in the 2013 TJV

A winner in the Med and Adriatic, the NEO 400 hull features a full bow which also increases interior volume plus a transom which delivers sufficient power without excessive wetted area. Care was taken to ensure the 400 works in both IRC and ORC

The first Class40 with in-line shrouds. Five examples launched Lots of changes for V3, with 15% more power in the hull shape

An ultra-powerful new 44-footer that is directly descended from Carkeek’s all-conquering HPR 40. Expect this to be an offshore mile muncher every bit as much as it’s certain to be a high-pointing inshore rocketship

A promising and deeply attractive mid-sized Italian offering

The next generation of stylish performance cruiser, with generous and stable handling characteristics. With an interior designed by Snøhetta, this yacht combines class-leading pace with a beautiful interior
